How-to guide

How to combine scanned documents into a single PDF

Scanners and scanning apps often save each page or each batch as its own PDF, leaving you with a folder of separate files that really belong together as one document.

Why this happens with scanners

Many desktop scanners and phone scanning apps default to saving one file per scan session rather than appending to an existing document, especially when scanning pages one at a time on a flatbed scanner.

Combining them

  1. Open the Merge PDF tool.
  2. Drop in every scanned file, in whatever order they were saved.
  3. Drag the thumbnails into the correct reading order — scanner filenames don't always sort the way the pages should read.
  4. Merge and download the combined document.

If a page came out sideways

Scanned pages sometimes end up rotated depending on how the paper was fed. Fix any sideways pages with the Rotate PDF tool before or after merging.
